Social networking websites have become a household name in today’s world. Whether it is our personal or professional life, they are a truly great way connect with friends, colleagues and establishing new relationships online. Not long ago, we used to associate the term ‘social networking’ with something which was personal and tangible. However, with the advent of the Internet, we have now become more eager to display our social networking capabilities on the web.

According to psychologists, the thrill of establishing new relationships over the Internet can be attributed to the expanding growth of social network websites. However, in the zeal to become ‘social’, we tend to ignore the many security issues hovering over such social network websites. Without a doubt, these social networks help us a lot in establishing contact with our friends, colleagues and relatives, but it is also true that we need to be aware of the endemic security issues in context of these social networking websites.

Before venturing into the steps that we can take, to save ourselves from being a prey to the security issues, we need to understand the real reason behind them. Every social networking website asks the user to fill up a registration form, mentioning therein all the required details. The broad divisions into which the details are segregated are social, professional and personal. The details carry your contact information, email id, your current profession and your personal likes and dislikes. There is a chance that the information you are supplying can be provocative to some and might land you into serious trouble.

This is just one of the many security issues prevalent over social networking websites. There is also a chance that the person whom you actually think to be your friend/colleague turns out to be an impostor. There is also a sect of people who get provoked by the kind of religious feelings/political views that you support. Remember that all these details are filled up by you and only you can protect yourself from the clutches of security issues over social networking websites.

Let us now take an overview of how you can protect yourself from being a victim to these security issues,

1. Never ever share your password with anyone, not even with the closest of your friend/family.

2. Just after you finish typing in your user name and password, remember to turn off the ‘remember me’ button. This helps immensely in protecting your ID from any security issues present in these social network sites.

3. Make it a mandatory habit to always logout of the social network site after you have finished using it.

4. After filling up the required information in the registration form, never forget to edit the privacy settings of the same. If possible, it is always recommended to change the settings to ‘viewable only to my friends’ rather than ‘viewable to everyone’. This way you can save your profile from being visible to everyone in public.

5. Never provide sensitive information while filling up these forms. What might seem as ordinary to you, can be provocative material to many.

6. In case, you find that your profile has been tampered with, immediately report the matter to the ‘report abuse/violations’ sections.

These small steps can work wonders in providing you with the most solid protection against all possible security issues lurking in such social network websites. Social networking is fun but with a little care we can avoid our personal content/details from being a part of the public, as a whole. The phrase, ‘A stitch in time saves nine’, is quite apt in this context. If we try to be a little aware of the problems which might crop up because of our ignorance, we can save our profile from all kinds of security issues over social network websites.

Common Financial Reporting Disclosure Issues – (Part 2) Directors Report

In Part 1 of this article we dealt with the common financial reporting issues within the Directors Report which have become subject to particular scrutiny by both the accounting institutes and representative/regulatory bodies. In this article we will discuss the common financial reporting disclosure issues which are prevalent in the Auditor’s Reports.

Auditor’s Report

From an Institute’s Review perspective one of the key Reports to “get right” is the Auditor’s Report. The primary guidance document is APB ISA 700 “The Auditor’s Report on Financial Statements” and APB Bulletin 2006/01 (for Irish registered companies) and more recently APB Bulletin 2009/02 (for UK registered companies).

Paragraph 1

We have audited the financial statements of Company Name for the year ended???? which comprises of the Profit and Loss Account, the Balance Sheet, and the related notes. These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and the accounting policies set out therein.

Common Mistakes made

Paragraph 2 “The Bannerman Paragraph”

This report is made solely to the company’s members as a body in accordance with Section 193 of the Companies Acts, 1990. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we might state to the company’s members those matters that we are required to state to them in the audit report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the company or the company’s members as a body for our audit work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed.

Common Mistakes made

Respective responsibilities of directors and auditors

The next section of the Auditor’s Report deals with the respective responsibilities of Directors and Auditors and should read as follows:

“As described in the Statement of Directors’ Responsibilities the company’s directors are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and Generally Accepted Accounting Practice in Ireland including the accounting standards issued by the Accounting Standards Board and published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland/Certified Public Accountants/Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Our responsibility is to audit the financial statements in accordance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and International Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland) promulgated by the Auditing Practices Board (UK and Ireland).

We report to you our opinion as to whether the financial statements give a true and fair view in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice and are properly prepared in accordance with the Companies Acts, 1963 to 2006. We also report to you whether in our opinion: proper books of account have been kept by the company; whether, at the balance sheet date, there exists a financial situation requiring the convening of an extraordinary general meeting of the company; and whether the information given in the Directors’ Report is consistent with the financial statements. In addition, we state whether we have obtained all the information and explanations necessary for the purposes of our audit and whether the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss are in agreement with the books of account.

We also report to you, in our opinion, any information specified by law regarding directors’ remuneration and directors’ transactions are not given, and where practicable, include such information in our report.

We read the Directors’ Report and consider the implications for our report if we become aware of any apparent misstatement within it.”

Basis of audit opinion

The Basis of Audit Opinion section typically consists of two paragraphs as set out below

Paragraph 1

“We conducted our audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland) issued by the Auditing Practices Board. An audit includes examination, on a test basis, of evidence relevant to the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. It also includes an assessment of the significant estimates and judgements made by the directors in the preparation of the financial statements, and of whether the accounting policies are appropriate to the company’s circumstances, consistently applied and adequately disclosed.”

Paragraph 2

“We planned and performed our audit so as to obtain all the information and explanations which we considered necessary in order to provide us with sufficient evidence to give reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement, whether caused by fraud or other irregularity or error. In forming our opinion we also evaluated the overall adequacy of the presentation of information in the financial statements.”

NOTE

Variations to Paragraph 2 may be required in cases where the auditor was unable to plan or/and perform the audit so as to obtain all the information and explanations leading to a limitation of scope except for or disclaimer opinion. We will look at this in more detail when we look at Modified Audit Opinions in a future edition of this Newsletter.

The following paragraph is also added in cases where the Auditor is availing of the APB Ethical Standards-Provisions Available to Small entities

“We have undertaken the audit in accordance with the requirements of the APB Ethical Standards – Provisions Available to Small entities under the circumstances set out in note 20 to the financial statements. MAY NOT BE APPLICABLE”

Common Mistakes made

The final section of the auditors report is the Opinion Section

In the majority of cases the Auditor is required to give their opinion on the following items

“That the financial statements give a true and fair view, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice in Ireland, of the state of the company’s affairs as at date and of its profit for the year then ended and have been properly prepared in accordance with the Companies Acts 1963 to 2006.

That the auditor has obtained all the information and explanations they considered necessary for the purpose of the audit.

That in their opinion, the company has kept proper books of account and that the company’s financial statements are in agreement with the books of account.

That in their opinion, the information given in the Directors’ Report is consistent with the financial statements.

That the net assets of the company, as stated in the balance sheet are more than half of the amount of its called up share capital and, in their opinion, on that basis there did not exist at date a financial situation which, under section 40(1) of the Companies (Amendment) Act 1983, would require the convening of an extraordinary general meeting of the company.”

NOTE

The statement regarding net assets above is not required for Companies Limited by Guarantee.

Common Mistakes made

Emphasis of Matter

In accordance with ISA 700 an emphasis of matter opinion should be included in the Auditor’s Report if there is a:

Material matter regarding a going concern problem

Significant uncertainty (other than a going concern problem), the resolution of which is dependent upon future events and which may affect the financial statements

Common Mistakes made

The sign off of the Auditor’s Report should include the terms Registered Auditor in the accountants name and should be dated appropriately.

The paragraph and the notes to the accounts are not specific enough to the company and its particular issues

Including the Emphasis of Matter paragraph in the body of the Auditor’s Report as opposed to being the last paragraph of the Report

Including the incorrect Companies Acts references

Including the Net asset paragraph in the Financial Statements of Company Limited by Guarantee

References made to Auditing Standards as opposed to International Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland)

Mis-use of the APB Ethical Standards – Provisions Available to Small entities paragraph, either not including it when it should have been or vice versa

Not amending Paragraph 2 in cases where limitation of scope exists

References made to Auditing Standards as opposed to International Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland)

Including a paragraph regarding the review of Operating and Financial Reviews-this is only required in the case of a plc company

Including the incorrect Companies Acts references

Including the incorrect Companies Acts references

Whether it’s paying the bills or budgeting for the month, you may feel better helping out and your spouse may feel better sharing the burden. Either way, make sure to always discuss financial issues in a calm, mature way. Better yet, set aside time to talk about finances. If you are in a hurry, stressed out, or not prepared to talk about this sensitive issue, chances are you won’t have a productive discussion.

No matter what your marriage problems may be, there are many different programs that can help you solve them if you find that you aren’t successful doing it on your own. Marriage counseling, books, and online resources are just a few options that can get you started on your path to dealing productively with these problems. Either way, keep in mind that it will take partnership and patience to achieve your common goals.

You can easily change your diet and lifestyle and you may notice a difference in your symptoms or have no symptoms at all. However if you suffer from a more severe case of acid reflux then at that point you may have to use something like antacids or a proton pump inhibitors. If you deal from the most severe case then at that point you may need surgery to help you to overcome the discomforts.

The reason that your throat narrows is that your jaw falls on it when you sleep.

Family Issues That Impede Drug Addiction Treatment In Oklahoma

Unlikely as it might seem, there are certain family related issues that are proving to be an impediment in the drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma. The family is expected to be one of the strongest pillars in the addiction treatment program but, on the contrary, it is seen that the drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma is impeded by problems such as ignorance, codependency and family issues that might crop up as a byproduct of the addiction in the house. When that happens, it is definitely a sorry state because not only does the patient go deeper into the addiction, but the family also begins to require treatment. This is not just for addiction treatment involving young patients, but these family issues are also seen with older people who are into an addiction.

Let us take a look at some of the family problems that are rocking the scene of drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma and also check out how these problems are being circumvented.

1. Ignorance

Ignorance about drug addiction is rampant in Oklahoma. People do not still know what it is about and always think a substance abuse condition is something that cannot happen in their own house. This feeling of complacency is actually adding to the problem.

Most families do not know that there is someone with an addiction problem in their house until it is too late. The signs may be quite apparent, but families who are ignorant or complacent about addiction related issues will not be able to read them. This will lead the patient to remain with the addiction till it reaches a heightened condition. At this point, it becomes quite difficult for the families to suitably intervene in the addiction treatment program for the patient even if they wanted to.

Even the word “rehab” is quite a collective term, because there are various ways in which rehab treatment can be implemented. Families who are not aware that there are different treatment programs will not be able to find a program that is suitable to the condition of the patient.

2. Codependency Issues

Codependency happens when an external person or persons is instrumental in keeping an addict into the addicted state, i.e. away from a mode of treatment. This is seen in several families in Oklahoma that have an addicted person. A simple example is when families put the addiction of someone among them under wraps. They might do this for fear of social ridicule or to escape being named in an offense that the addicted person has committed. Though this might be out of love for the addicted person, in fact, it helps in giving a wrong signal to the addict and keeping him or her under the addiction for longer.

The issue of codependency is most rampant in families because they are the groups that will try to hide a person’s addiction. Families need to be counseled for coming out of this situation. Various counseling groups that exist in the state are quite active in this activity.

3. Emotional Issues

Families that are not adept at handling addiction and substance abuse situations are quite likely to go into emotional overdrive. There might be people in the family who take the person’s addiction in quite a wrong manner and develop emotional problems themselves. They might go under depression, have anxiety, develop phobias and might even develop some cardiovascular problems such as hypertension.

This is a big handicap in the program for drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma because it magnifies the problem instead of solving it. These families are not able to properly intervene for the patient’s treatment, which entails convincing and motivating them to accept treatment, and they will not be able to monitor the condition of the patient even when the patient is admitted into the treatment center. A very important role of the family is during the aftercare process when the family is coached to monitor the patient so that he or she does not have a relapse. However, a family that is prone to emotional instability will not be able to participate in any manner at this stage, making it quite difficult to prevent a re-addiction possibility in the patient.

Counseling is the only way these problems can be removed. The state program of drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma is spending a lot of effort and resources in making this happen.

Issues Affecting the Trucking Industry

The weight capacity of the trucks can pose a problem to the road structure itself if it has not been designed to carry the weight of a large tractor-trailer. The immense weight can cause cracks on the roads that will lead to a more inconvenient – and less safe – road to other motorists.

Some states are imposing strict regulations on the issuance of truck driving licenses. They require a variety of background checks that have the possibility of becoming an added burden to potential drivers. In many cases, these background checks are not very applicable to the job, but the drivers have no choice but to submit to a thorough look-through of past records in order to keep or acquire a trucking job.

In a perfect world, local and state governments would weigh the overall benefits for a truck owner or a trucking company to operate within certain boundaries while maintaining the safety of city roadways and streets. How long do condoms last? Packaged condoms have a shelf life of about two years. Stored properly, they can last up to five years.

This is the worst place to keep a condom because of the heat and humidity,” revealed Dr. Michael Lim Tan, executive director of the Health Action Information Network in Health Alert.

Some condoms are lubricated to lessen the chances of breakage and feel more comfortable. Those who use them prefer to add more lubrication which is a good idea.
